Nutmeg Cookies

I was looking to make an alternative to gingerbread cookies, but I love spice cookies.  Cinnamon is so common so I opted for nutmeg instead.  As an aside, these come out pretty strong, so if you don’t like spice cookies, you might want to halve the nutmeg.

I also dunked the finished cookies into a powdered sugar and nutmeg mixture of 1 cup powdered sugar & 1 Tablespoon nutmeg.


1 Cup unsalted butter, room temperature

2 Cups flour

1/2 Cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 Cup powdered sugar

1 Tablespoon nutmeg


Cream butter, granulated sugar and vanilla in a medium mixing bowl.

Add in flour, powdered sugar and nutmeg until well blended.  (Dough will have a flaky texture.)

Chill for fifteen minutes.

Roll dough into balls and lay on paper lined cookie sheet, 1 – 2 inches apart.

Bake at 300 degrees F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Store in an airtight container until served.
